Summary:
Stylianos came to the U.S. 1 year ago. He taught high school math for 18 years in Greece. He wants to return to education in the U.S. He is building his English proficiency to take the CBEST / CSET exams in the future.
However, he wants to enter the education field before this – perhaps as an teacher’s assistant. He would like to get thoughts from a high school educator on the types of positions he might qualify for in the short-term, and how he can work towards becoming a successful teacher in the U.S. in the long term.
More details:
The main challenge he faces is English fluency. He currently a driver (Lyft, etc.) since he had few options when arriving to the U.S. due to limited English. However, he is motivated to return to education and is taking night ESL classes at San Mateo Adult School.
If a teacher would like to help talk with him, he’d like to start with some email exchanges, and perhaps meet if it makes sense and the volunteer is able to.
