Safety tips
As with anybody you meet, it is ultimately your responsibility to use sound judgement and safety measures. It is important to act with caution with someone you are just getting to know.
We strongly encourage you to follow these safety tips :
In-person meetings
In our changing environment for COVID-19, ConnectOne is supporting matches for virtual meetings only: video calls, phone, email, & text. We appreciate all participants to NOT have in-person meetings at this critical time when health and wellness is of most importance.
The in-person guidelines below are for reference only, and to be returned to only after the COVID-19 situation is contained. Thank you ♥
- Meet in a public place where a lot of other people are present. Good options are the library (some have study rooms that can be used and/or reserved), the mall, a busy park, or a coffee shop.
- Tell a friend or family member where you will be & who you are meeting. Plan on a check-in after you return.
- Use your own transportation. Do not offer rides. Do not have your match pick you up or drop you off.
- Be aware of your surroundings as you walk to and from your car.
- Do not agree to meet at someone’s home or any private office.
- Carry a phone with emergency numbers.
- Do not leave personal belongings alone with your match if you need to leave the room or table for any time during your meeting. This includes your wallet, purse, keys, phone, laptop, and food/drink.
Sensitive information
- Never let your match see your social security number, driver’s license number, or date of birth.
- Never let your match see any bank, credit card, or other account numbers.
- In cases where the goals involve reviewing documents together, black out the information listed above before sharing paperwork with your match.
- Never let your match see your user name or password to any account.
- If you let your match use your computer, observe alongside at all times.
Money
- We strongly discourage giving or lending money to your match. We believe in sharing time, knowledge, and skills.
E-mail communications
- Always use good judgement and be cautious when deciding to click on any URL link.
- Never give private or sensitive information through email.
Report safety concerns to ConnectOne.
